6718 Residence Update 4

The mild winter weather has allowed the construction to move quickly.  The Master Closet is primed and ready to paint.  With all of the structure exposed, the detailing in the screened porch has been challanging but Hurst Construction has been doing a great job. The photo on the left shows the jig needed to make the cuts in the top of the posts where the rafters will sit.  ...

1232 Residence Update 9

Went by to check out the final prep for paint. All the trim is in and the cabinets are installed. It looks great even unpainted, I can't wait to see it painted. Everything will be basically the same color but different degrees of gloss / flat. This is one of the trick pieces in the project. When both parts are folded away it looks like a normal cabinet but when entertaining it can be folded out to become a...

Custom Gate

RDM Architecture jumped into the design-build side of things with this gate we designed for a previous client who's dogs discovered a weak spot in the "invisible fence". At this particular spot they were able to build up some speed and get through and out of range. To resolve this we just needed a gate as the surrounding plantings are dense/thorny enough to disuade the dogs from going around. The dogs, having discovered the gap, kept escaping and we couldn't find...

1232 Residence Update 4

Just a quick update today, if you want to see more you can check out the Facebook Gallery here.  Below is a before and after shot of the East side of the addition. You can see the metal mesh is in and the metal corners at the pilaster. All the doors and windows are in and trimmed out on the exterior. As of yesterday it seems like fall has started so we are now in a race with the elements...

1232 Residence Update 3

Making quick progress on the 1232 Residence, framing is getting close to complete, stucco starts next week. It is starting to take shape. In order to keep the homeowners in the kitchen as long as possible a temporary wall has been erected until all the exterior work is done to the point that the expanded family room is weather tight. With doors and windows going in it looks like that point isn't all that far away. ...

Olsen Residence Basement

We haven't posted anything about this project until now since its in Manhattan, KS and we haven't been able to see the progress as much as we have on other in-town projects. We went out there on Monday to photograph the completed basement and get the ball rolling for the next phase of the project. We are very happy with what we saw there and have put together a few before/after shots to illustrate the transformation. The basement is...

1232 Residence Update 2

This project is moving along so quickly we're going to take a little jump up to present day and try to keep up. Exterior framing is getting really close to being wrapped up. We've got a couple more posts to set and then all the sills and screen frame. The chimney and the fireplaces should be framed by the time most people see this. This is the one of the really fun parts of construction. In the course of a...

Custom Stair Install 3

It's done! Ok, its not quite done but by the time most of you see this it will be. This stair has turned out better then we could have imagined and the client is ecstatic about the change to the space that happened just by changing the stair. Hurst construction has done another amazing project for us, the fit and finish to this stair is amazing especially considering the modifications that had to be made to the stair as it...

Belvedere Update 7

Another site visit to take a look at some roof framing and to see what's been going on since we were there last. Roof framing and sheathing is cruising right along as you can see from the pictures. Below is the view you'll see coming in the new drive. The temporary gravel drive has been built up quite a bit above where the new drive will be. The garage doors below are actually framed up higher as they will have...

Custom Stair Install 2

The glass has arrived and the stair is bolted in place. Ian and his guys had to make some on-site modifications to make it fit but its in for good now. Below, Ian, Rick and Greg make the first ascent. There is a bit of fill and sanding left to do and the stringers will be painted to match the wall color and the treads and railing will be stained a mid to dark brown. We'll stop by and take...
