Belvedere Update 34

More progress on the exterior. The pool is filled and the rest of the plantings are in. The path to the dining room has also been fully planted, including between the pavers. This is going to look even better as those start to fill in. Another view of the patio showing how dense the plantings are and a hint of the great view. Gutters (copper half-round) and downspouts are in, as is the exterior lighting and the screens. The upper patio paving system...

Belvedere Update 33

It hasn't been that long but things are cruising now so here are even more pictures! We'll start with the interior. First thing you notice going into the house is this incredible waterjet cut natural stone medallion installed in what is already a beautiful floor. You can see a bit of the stair, one of the only things that haven't been stained and finished. There is a custom curved piece mahogany that we are waiting on before the final trim can...

Belvedere Update 31

Belvedere keeps moving forward! Site work continues and little by little the piles of material are getting smaller. The third bay of the garage is ready for stucco and the adjacent retaining wall is done. Final colored coat of stucco is on and looks great. The screen porch is stuccoed as well and the screen frames and wood paneling will finish off that side of the house. The wrought iron railings on the adjacent deck are in and now the roofing...

Belvedere Update 30

This might not be the most exciting for everybody but the garage floor is finally in and the last bay of the garage has been closed in. The walls and ceiling have been spray foamed and are ready for drywall. This is one of the last big things that has been left open since the third bay of the garage was our only access to the back of the site. Another big step under way is the laying of the Wausau...

Belvedere Update 29

Another site visit and few new pictures. The trees are greening up and the house is getting harder to see but here is the view from the road. It is difficult to see but most of the railings are in, and the stone is pretty much done on this side. The cast stone tile is in for the upper terrace. There is a lot of it. They are waiting on a few trim pieces and then install of that stone can...

Belvedere Update 28

It hasn't been long since we've had a post about Belvedere but we've got a few cool images we thought were worth sharing. This is the tower ceiling now complete with LED lighting and giant chandelier. The lighting makes a huge difference and the finish is incredible. A small electric winch is concealed in one of the beams allowing the light to be lowered to the first floor for lightbulb changes. Pretty neat. The plaster work on the underside of the helical...

Belvedere Update 26

Another Belvedere post! We are now into the finished stuff. The stone front porch with brick edge is done as is the water element next to it. There is some beautiful stone work just on these two parts and they make a great introduction to the house. The stone fireplace install continues. The hardest part is done. The main mantel is one large piece and weighs around 1800 lbs. It was rolled into place using rigging and a cart made from...

Belvedere Update 25

This is a long post, so get ready because there are some cool things in it starting with this first pic. There have been delays due to site work and details but the bridges are finally on site. The steep site requires a unique installation path. To get the bridges to the downhill side of the house they were lifted over the entire house and lowered carefully into place. They actually approached the limits of this crane not due to weight...

Belvedere Update 24

Construction on the Belvedere is progressing with the installation of the stucco base coat. The photo below is a view of the north elevation looking up from Lakeshore Drive East. Construction of a retaining wall will start soon that will terrace the yard from the street up to this side of the house. All of the masonry has been by Architectural Masonry & Restoration and their work has ben exemplary. From the full stone veneer on the walls to the flagstone...

Belvedere Update 23

As fall sets in, the push to wrap up the exterior of the Belvedere is under way. More and more decisions are being made and it is really coming together. Below is a view of the entry porch. All of the cast stone has been installed at the fron doors and nearly all of the house stone is installed other than this area. Since the design of the water feature at the entry has been in flux and it is...
