Stair Rail

We love to work on projects of every scale here and this is a perfect example of a smaller scale project and another successful collaboration with Pascal at Meya Metalworks. The existing steel tube railings didn't match the style of the house and didn't meet code (also they were ugly). We came up with some preliminary design ideas and then worked with Pascal to come up with a final design and details. The client collects classic sports cars and...

Belvedere Update 29

Another site visit and few new pictures. The trees are greening up and the house is getting harder to see but here is the view from the road. It is difficult to see but most of the railings are in, and the stone is pretty much done on this side.   The cast stone tile is in for the upper terrace. There is a lot of it. They are waiting on a few trim pieces and then install of...

Belvedere Update 28

It hasn't been long since we've had a post about Belvedere but we've got a few cool images we thought were worth sharing. This is the tower ceiling now complete with LED lighting and giant chandalier. The lighting makes a huge difference and the finish is incredible. A small electric winch is concealed in one of the beams allowing the light to be lowered to the first floor for lightbulb changes. Pretty neat. The plaster work on the underside...

Another RDM stair!

This is a little project that we've just completed the drawings for.  The clients contacted several architects and were told that their project was too small and they were not interested. We are willing to look at any size project because we've found that small projects like this can be interesting and fun. This was no exception.  Oddly the existing house didn't have an interior connection between the first and second floor other than a very utilitarian concrete stair in...

KCH&G Photoshoot

Keep an eye out in upcoming KCH&G issues for some photos of our project.  Rick and I went out during the photoshoot to take a look at the finished and furnished project. The clients are incredibly happy with the end result and have transforned (with our help) a stark and dated place into something fantastic. I took a few pics while Alistair Tutton worked his magic. We spent a lot of time with Hurst Construction and with Arcways to make...

“Its just a stair Rick”

We posted some install pictures of this not too long ago but its come a long way since then, at least it feels to us like it has. After a lot of trimming and sanding to accommodate the uneven floor and a dimensional mistake by the stair fabricators up north this stair is in and will not be moving any time soon. The glass and handrails are in with the exception of the last panel at the top which is still...

Custom Stair Install 3

It's done! Ok, its not quite done but by the time most of you see this it will be. This stair has turned out better then we could have imagined and the client is ecstatic about the change to the space that happened just by changing the stair. Hurst construction has done another amazing project for us, the fit and finish to this stair is amazing especially considering the modifications that had to be made to the stair as it...

Custom Stair Install 2

The glass has arrived and the stair is bolted in place. Ian and his guys had to make some on-site modifications to make it fit but its in for good now. Below, Ian, Rick and Greg make the first ascent. There is a bit of fill and sanding left to do and the stringers will be painted to match the wall color and the treads and railing will be stained a mid to dark brown. We'll stop by and take...

Custom Stair Install

We've been working on this project for some time, and the stair is just one part of a whole series of projects in the same residence but for us this is certainly the most exciting at the moment. Designed in the late 70's by Alan Feingold Architects the living room, and really the entire house is full of 45 degree angles which come together in a large 2 story. At each end of the room glass doors and large windows...
