Aberdeen House –

Another RDM Architecture + Hurst Construction project is well under way, in fact we're almost done with electrical and plumbing rough in on the first half of the project but have been busy and haven't had a chance to put together a post yet so this is going to the the first of a couple to catch up to where things are. The existing house was designed by Morton Payne in the 60's and had survived pretty unchanged since then....

5400 Residence

We wrapped up this project a couple months ago and construction is moving along. The existing shed addition was removed and we are adding a new shop space to the existing garage. This addition will also allow more convenient access to the existing garage attic. The project includes a new arbor that matches one added on the opposite side of the house as part of a previous RDM project. Here is the existing rear of the house. The shed...

Coming Soon!

A big sneak preview of things that are coming soon! Three really different projects at three different scales which is what we love about what we do! The first is a garage/ mudroom/ shop addition that is just starting construction. We are adding to an existing garage to create two car tandom garage plus storage and shop space. An overhanging roof expands and shelters the existing outdoor space. Next is a another fantastic kitchen! Demolition is well under way...

New Project – Deck +

A quick intro to a new project we've got under construction now. An existing and poorly constructed composite deck wasn't large enough and didn't fit the lifestyle of the current homeowners. (It looks a lot nicer in the photos, trust us) Below is a pair of renderings we prepared that show pretty much where we ended up. Not only is the deck larger but a large portion of it is covered by a conventional roof and with a polycarbonate...

New Project ! 2019 Residence

We finished up the design work on this project about a year ago but construction is just now starting. Below is a photo of the existing house. It is a typical Prairie Village house that we are going to transform inside and out. By adding a small first floor addition we create a platform for a large addition on the upper floor for a new master bedroom. The additional first floor space allows for the extension of the overhang...

Another RDM stair!

This is a little project that we've just completed the drawings for.  The clients contacted several architects and were told that their project was too small and they were not interested. We are willing to look at any size project because we've found that small projects like this can be interesting and fun. This was no exception.  Oddly the existing house didn't have an interior connection between the first and second floor other than a very utilitarian concrete stair in...

6718 Residence Intro

This project in Mission Hills has three seperate parts, an addition of a walk in closet off of the master bathroom, a third garage bay that connects to an expaneded and remodeled laundry area, and a new screened porch in the back yard. From the beginning this project has had many hurdles to overcome. The first was a gas easement through the back yard that was unknown to / unclaimed by the gas company.  After searching through original plats...

Phosphor Studio

When Phosphor Studio (the guys responsible for our new website and frequent tech support ninjas) approached us to design a new office and production space for them in an existing downtown KC building we were obviously excited. When he said he wanted to incorporate a green roof and enviromentally responsible materials throughout it seemed like a perfect fit. The building had an existing mezzanine that would have been perfect for offices but it had no natural light and the...

Olsen Residence_Phase 2

With the completion of the basement renovation (see it here or here) we are moving into the next phase of the larger project.  Since the homeowners will be living in the house throughout the project they needed a place to cook and eat while the kitchen is demolished and rebuilt.  These are the renderings prepared during the design process. The left image is from the same point as the left "before" image above. As you can see we've opened...
