Aberdeen House 2

There aren't a lot of changes on the exterior of the house itself beyond the windows, doors and a few modifications but on the interior we are drastically changing the house. Taking it from something that is very traditional and essentially unchanged since it was built to something that is a nice mix of very contemporary and transitional. The largest of the changes are in the kitchen wing of the house. The existing kitchen wing was broken up into a series...

2019 Residence-Phase 2-4

A glare-filled picture but paint and trim are all done and it looks great. We also added some width and an overhang to the existing dormers to bring them into scale with the rest of the house and replaced the existing siding, windows and trim. A view of the rear of the house. Trim and siding is wrapped up. Just a little bit left. A finished shot of the upstairs bedroom. The clients did hand-drawn linework on the walls and picked a...

Aberdeen House –

Another RDM Architecture + Hurst Construction project is well under way, in fact we're almost done with electrical and plumbing rough in on the first half of the project but have been busy and haven't had a chance to put together a post yet so this is going to the the first of a couple to catch up to where things are. The existing house was designed by Morton Payne in the 60's and had survived pretty unchanged since then. We're...

2019 Residence – Phase 2

Phase 2 begins! (Honestly we're a little behind on posts for this project so we're going to catch up quickly) This was a project we finished up the first phase a couple years ago. We loved the way it turned out. We added a bit of space on the first floor but the majority of the work was in the master bedroom on the second floor. This phase concentrates on the first floor and opening it up in a...

5400 Residence

We wrapped up this project a couple months ago and construction is moving along. The existing shed addition was removed and we are adding a new shop space to the existing garage. This addition will also allow more convenient access to the existing garage attic. The project includes a new arbor that matches one added on the opposite side of the house as part of a previous RDM project. Here is the existing rear of the house. The shed...

6109 Residence Update 4

We're almost there! The new drive is in. We were able to expand it enough to comfortable have two cars side by side without negatively affecting the existing tree. The house from the front doesn't look very different, though we did put in a new post and repair ther trim there. As you move around the side you can really see the length of the addition. We don't think it really looks like a garage though, especially with all...

5235 Residence 2

Underway! Demolition shots are fun so here are a couple more. Below is the temporary bracing to put an upset beam since that was a structural wall. The visible beams in the living rooms aren't structural. New upset LVL and new hangers are installed. We'd actually planned on having the beam below the ceiling level as you can see in the renderings here but we like the ceiling plane going through into the kitchen. Electrical is in! New floor is toothed in. (We've been a...
