1232 Residence – Photos

Back in September this kitchen was featured in an article in Kansas City Homes & Gardens and while we were out there talking with the writer and catching up with the clients we had the photographer, Matt Kocourek,  shoot a couple more pictures for us to round out the documentation of the project. We think it is some good architecture and the clients really love the new spaces, so take a look.  Thanks to everyone involved....

Deck + _ 3

The outdoor kitchen was expanded during construction, adding the leg to the straight run to give them a little more space for cooking and seating. The stucco and the cut stone top are in. Looks awesome. A shot of the large arch, now in stucco as well as the columns. The deck and the trim are mostly installed and the rail is the next major part. With the dry-below system we are able to have a finished ceiling...

Deck + _ 2

Things are moving quickly on this project. The main roof and skylights are up and it is looking amazing. Adding a screen or covered porch can cut off a lot of natural light from your living space. We always suggest strongly that at least one skylight is added to restore that natural light. This particular client agreed and we ended up with some large skylights that still allow a view of the sky from the living room windows. ...

6718 Residence Completed!

We've posted extensively about this project as we've encountered some interesting snags along the way. I won't cover all that but here are the links to the previous posts if you are just starting to follow along or if like us, it has been long enough that you don't remember everything that's happened that a look at the following: Intro, 1, 2, 3, 4. We'll wait while you check out those other links...

Belvedere Update 26

Another Belvedere post! We are now into the finished stuff. The stone front porch with brick edge is done as is the water element next to it. There is some beautiful stone work just on these two parts and they make a great introduction to the house. The stone fireplace install continues. The hardest part is done. The main mantel is one large piece and weighs around 1800 lbs. It was rolled into place using rigging and a cart made from...

1232 Residence Update 11

Another RDM kitchen project wrapped up last month. This one very different from the last post below in style but it turned out great and has some pretty cool things going on. The cabinets are traditional in style and finished with a simple off-white paint. We were limited by an existing dining room wall and the stair to the basement so we had to work within the existing shell. We made some changes to get an additional couple feet of...

6718 Residence Update 4

The mild winter weather has allowed the construction to move quickly.  The Master Closet is primed and ready to paint.  With all of the structure exposed, the detailing in the screened porch has been challanging but Hurst Construction has been doing a great job. The photo on the left shows the jig needed to make the cuts in the top of the posts where the rafters will sit.  ...

6718 Residence Intro

This project in Mission Hills has three seperate parts, an addition of a walk in closet off of the master bathroom, a third garage bay that connects to an expaneded and remodeled laundry area, and a new screened porch in the back yard. From the beginning this project has had many hurdles to overcome. The first was a gas easement through the back yard that was unknown to / unclaimed by the gas company.  After searching through original plats...

1232 Residence Update 7

A site visit and some new pictures to share! The slate roof installers are organized and starting work. Using a list developed from the computer program they gather the correct sizes and colors and using the motorized trolley, stage them on the roof. It is slow going on the first couple courses because of the exposed rafter tails. To avoid punching through the tongue and groove decking, slots are cut in the tiles and copper straps are used to reach...

1232 Residence Update 6

I stopped by this morning to clarify a couple details with the contractor and to see what's going on. Before we get to the progress, I wanted to share this photo that we didn't get posted before Halloween. The neighbor decided that the porta-potty needed a little holiday spirit. Fantastic. Yesterday morning the slate arrived for the new roof. The company they worked with used a computer program to match the existing slate color and pattern. They submitted a...
