Aberdeen House 2

There aren't a lot of changes on the exterior of the house itself beyond the windows, doors and a few modifications but on the interior we are drastically changing the house. Taking it from something that is very traditional and essentially unchanged since it was built to something that is a nice mix of very contemporary and transitional. The largest of the changes are in the kitchen wing of the house. The existing kitchen wing was broken up into a series...

5235 Residence 2

Underway! Demolition shots are fun so here are a couple more. Below is the temporary bracing to put an upset beam since that was a structural wall. The visible beams in the living rooms aren't structural. New upset LVL and new hangers are installed. We'd actually planned on having the beam below the ceiling level as you can see in the renderings here but we like the ceiling plane going through into the kitchen. Electrical is in! ...

5235 Residence

You've already seen a couple of these images but here is a bit more info about that project. Below are some photots of the existing kitchen. It is a little dated and doesn't quite fit the way the homeowners cook and was too closed off from the rest of the house. Our design opened up the kitchen into the living room and also expanded it into the weird small pantry and laundry room that the previous owners had created....

C2 Residence Update 4

We're done! Yet another sucessful RDM Architecture and Hurst Construction Project!  Not a whole lot more to say, especially if you've been following along with the progress. Below is the storage/ entertainment side of things. It is difficult to see in either photo be there is a perforated metal pane in the last of the short cabinets that is painted to match the cabinets and hides the sub ( we don't like speaker fabric in this case ). ...

C2 Residence Update 3

We went by this project today to see where things were (just about done actually) and are very very happy with the way it looks. It is had to believe this is the same space. This project shows what you can do working in the same footprint and with minimal changes to the room. We made the storage more efficient and the cabinets went from face frame to  european style and we easily gained several linear feet of storage...

1232 Residence – Photos

Back in September this kitchen was featured in an article in Kansas City Homes & Gardens (take a look) and while we were out there talking with the writer and catching up with the clients we had the photographer, Matt Kocourek,  shoot a couple more pictures for us to round out the documentation of the project. We think it is some good architecture and the clients really love the new spaces, so take a look.  Thanks...

C2 Residence Update 2

Here we are over at C2 again already! Things are moving fast as we sit less than a week away from christmas as I'm writing this. Paint color was selected and paint and trim are up with the exception of the flat stock around the windows. The house is filled with activity with the painters, Karl the cabinet guy, the audio video guys installing and programming the audio and install the brakets and cables for the tv. Oh yeah, Dustin...

C2 Residence Update

This project has been zooming along with the hope of finishing it in time for some holiday houseguests. Ian says he never likes to promise projects will be finished around the holidays but he seems to have done it yet again and as we get closer (these pictures are from last week, we've been busy) It looks like it is going to be possible. Windows are all in and the new drywall is in an mudded. The amount of light...

New Project – C2 Residence

A new project that we're excited about is under construction and we haven't gotten around to posting anything about it so this post is image-filled and for the sake of clarity this post is divided into the different little parts of the larger project.  Starting with the Kitchen. The existing kitchen? Not great and the giant mass above the range is an overpowering and not very efficient use of space. Getting rid of that was priority number 1 (in the...

Deck + _ 3

The outdoor kitchen was expanded during construction, adding the leg to the straight run to give them a little more space for cooking and seating. The stucco and the cut stone top are in. Looks awesome. A shot of the large arch, now in stucco as well as the columns. The deck and the trim are mostly installed and the rail is the next major part. With the dry-below system we are able to have a finished ceiling...
