Aberdeen House –

Another RDM Architecture + Hurst Construction project is well under way, in fact we're almost done with electrical and plumbing rough in on the first half of the project but have been busy and haven't had a chance to put together a post yet so this is going to the the first of a couple to catch up to where things are. The existing house was designed by Morton Payne in the 60's and had survived pretty unchanged since then....

2019 Residence – Phase 2

Phase 2 begins! (Honestly we're a little behind on posts for this project so we're going to catch up quickly) This was a project we finished up the first phase a couple years ago. We loved the way it turned out. We added a bit of space on the first floor but the majority of the work was in the master bedroom on the second floor. This phase concentrates on the first floor and opening it up in a...

5235 Residence 3

A quick update on yet another white kitchen by RDM. Drywall is done, lighting is in. Also all the the ceiling and wall changes in the adjacent room are done and ready for paint. The first cabinets are in and you can start to get a feel for the room. Looking good. This project has long since been completed but we haven't had time to get over there and take any pictures. We should have some shortly though,...

5400 Residence

We wrapped up this project a couple months ago and construction is moving along. The existing shed addition was removed and we are adding a new shop space to the existing garage. This addition will also allow more convenient access to the existing garage attic. The project includes a new arbor that matches one added on the opposite side of the house as part of a previous RDM project. Here is the existing rear of the house. The shed...

Coming Soon!

A big sneak preview of things that are coming soon! Three really different projects at three different scales which is what we love about what we do! The first is a garage/ mudroom/ shop addition that is just starting construction. We are adding to an existing garage to create two car tandom garage plus storage and shop space. An overhanging roof expands and shelters the existing outdoor space. Next is a another fantastic kitchen! Demolition is well under way...

New Project ! 2019 Residence

We finished up the design work on this project about a year ago but construction is just now starting. Below is a photo of the existing house. It is a typical Prairie Village house that we are going to transform inside and out. By adding a small first floor addition we create a platform for a large addition on the upper floor for a new master bedroom. The additional first floor space allows for the extension of the overhang...

6718 Residence Completed!

We've posted extensively about this project as we've encountered some interesting snags along the way. I won't cover all that but here are the links to the previous posts if you are just starting to follow along or if like us, it has been long enough that you don't remember everything that's happened that a look at the following: Intro, 1, 2, 3, 4. We'll wait while you check out those other links...

Another RDM stair!

This is a little project that we've just completed the drawings for.  The clients contacted several architects and were told that their project was too small and they were not interested. We are willing to look at any size project because we've found that small projects like this can be interesting and fun. This was no exception.  Oddly the existing house didn't have an interior connection between the first and second floor other than a very utilitarian concrete stair in...

Sexton Screen Panels

Following the conclusion of the stair project (check out one of the posts here) We worked with the Sextons to develop an updated landscape plan that better fit the way they use the outdoor space. The  adjacent house has a raised brick paver patio that looks directly onto their deck and front door. They sent us a few images of asian art that they liked  and we came up with a scale of panel that looked good on site and...
