And the Winner is…

Back when it was cold and snowy, in fact it was during one of the snowpocalypse 2011 events, we drew a winner for the RDM Architecture contest. If you hadn't yet started following us, it was for a free, no strings attached, 2 hour consultation with RDM Architecture. It was the first time we'd done something like that and with just our website and a couple ads through KCH&G, the entries came flooding in. After much emailing, phone calls and coordination...

Belvedere Update 1

We took an office trip out to check on the progress at the Beveldere site. You can tell even now that the views are going to be spectacular from both the upper and lower patio. There is more excavation to come yet but the form of the house is slowly rising from the ground. To the right is the entrance to the lower garage, the curving wall beyond is the lower patio, past that and up the stepped wall is the...

Belvedere in the Snow

Just because the site is snow covered and serene doesn't mean the work stops. RDM, the owners, and the rest of the project team trudged out into the snow to make some key decisions. We looked at the stone and mortar colors as well as the roofing style and color. Coming in out of the snow we headed to Continental Cast Stone for a short tour and to look at some cast stone colors. We may not be the post office but we won't...

Dogs and Architecture

Often its not just the human clients that influence a design. In the case of the recently completed Sun Room Addition, Winnie the Bull Terrier (pictured above) helped us to choose patio material (durable), plantings (not many and well protected) and fencing (sturdy and metal). We're dog friendly people here at RDM and we felt that we should thank Winnie for her help on the project.   Coincidently just as the project was wrapping up we stumbled upon Kath Wilson, a glass...

Bird House Studio

An Introduction to the Birdhouse Studio A first look at the Birdhouse Studio and it is already ready for the floor slab pour. The project includes a new studio art space, laundry and bath room in addition to a new, larger and more easily accessible garage. We've used the addition to create a small "courtyard" space and a sense of arrival at the secondary entrance to the the house.     The location of the house within a...

Belvedere Excavation

08 November 2010 Excavation continues at Lake Quivira: A great deal of work has been done already as you can see from the photos below and its possible now to get a feeling for where each level of the house will eventually sit. Having removed the loose rock and soil, the work now consists of breaking free and dragging out car-sized boulders. Not an easy task but it continues to move along on schedule....

New Website Live

14 September 2010 New RDM Architecture site is live! The new bigger and better, stronger and faster RDM Website is up. Its been a long process but we're happy with the results. Thanks to Jason and Phospor Interactive (http://www.phosphorinteractive.com/) for their hard work.
