324 Residence

This project has been going for a while but for some reason we haven't gotten around to a post about it. In the next week or so I'll get you caught up to whats going on now. Here we go! This is the house. Typical of the style of a lot of houses in the Waldo and Brookside area with steep roof pitches and multiple intersecting planes and brick and stucco. The house, like many built around that time...

2019 Residence 3

Time for another up update! Paint is done and looks fantastic. This project is very close to complete. The sidewalk has been laid out on site and should be going in very soon and then we can get the front yard put back together. In addition the other drive will be demolished and the sidewalk replaced. This isn't a great photo but is a very clear description of what was added on the first floor. You can clearly see...

2019 Residence 2

Siding and trim are up. Looking pretty great. The addition certainly defines the entry and adds a focal point to the house. The trim panel stands out nicely already but once painted the accent color it is going to really pop.  None of the siding has been painted yet so you can really see the difference between the siding and the metal corners. These metal pieces finish off the corners and replace the historic battons  This leads to...

324 Residence 4

We are at that point in the project where things seem to slow down. Electrical and plumbing is moving along but not a whole lot changing from the exterior. The only exciting news is the new window installation. Along with the windows there is also the skylights. For the first time you can see why we really wanted to add the pair of skylights over the stair to the second floor. Not only does it let a lot of...

RDM takes home another award!

Last week while Rick was away KC Magazine held their annual Design Excellence Awards. Mike and Matthew showed up at the new J.E. Dunn headquarters downtown to represent RDM Architecture and hopefully pick up an award. We submitted the Sun Room Addition (http://www.rdmarchitecture.com/blog-whats-new/dogs-and-architecture.html) and took home an award for Architecture_Exterior! Former RDM employee Jerad Foster and his crew, who built the entertainment unit pictured above for the project, picked up an award for that as well making the project...

Bird House Studio

An Introduction to the Birdhouse Studio A first look at the Birdhouse Studio and it is already ready for the floor slab pour. The project includes a new studio art space, laundry and bath room in addition to a new, larger and more easily accessible garage. We've used the addition to create a small "courtyard" space and a sense of arrival at the secondary entrance to the the house.     The location of the house within a...

Handrail Fitting

Last-Minute Fitting We just posted some images of this project, but we were out there for the test fitting and adjustment of the guard rail and hand rail and we're excited about how great it looks. It will be powder-coated to match the brackets so any adjustments, drilling or welding have to be done now. It is like a dress fitting for a building the week before the big event. That's Brian of Hurst Construction up there adjusting the upper end of the...

Sun Room Addition

Sun Room and Backyard Transformation (sneak preview) You may have seen this project in process if you've been keeping up with the RDM Facebook page. As it nears completion we're getting excited about the way it is taking shape. A relatively simple project but its all in the details. RDM has teamed up with Hurst Construction again and they are doing some beautiful work with the cypress cladding and ipe sunscreen and deck. The project should be wrapping up in the next...
