Belvedere Framing

Framing is well underway out at the Belvedere site. The lower floor is framed and the sheathing is started, the floor above is in and framing will be starting up there soon. The project is moving right along. Below you can see the block shelf built up from the footing, the stone will start here and grade will be just above this point. There is still quite a bit of back fill that needs be be done. It should...

Bird House Studio Update 3

Here's a quick update to the birdhouse studio and a couple images. The exterior trim and siding is all done as well as the paint and concrete flat work. Theres a little work left here and there and the grading and plantings. With the new stone wall and concrete walk the drainage problems are solved for good and the client is happy. Stay tuned for the final pictures. ...

And the Winner is…

Back when it was cold and snowy, in fact it was during one of the snowpocalypse 2011 events, we drew a winner for the RDM Architecture contest. If you hadn't yet started following us, it was for a free, no strings attached, 2 hour consultation with RDM Architecture. It was the first time we'd done something like that and with just our website and a couple ads through KCH&G, the entries came flooding in. After much emailing, phone calls and...

Belvedere Concrete II

Formwork for the upper foundation walls is stripped! Its a big day on the Belvedere site, the spray water proofing (the black in the photo below) has been applied and the protective foundation board applied over that. All that is left is a little cleanup and a lot of backfill and the foundation part of the project will be largely complete. A little bit closer...

Out to Bid!

We've wrapped up construction documents on this light-filled, two-story kitchen addition. Located on large lot in Prairie Village, KS the house had a small kitchen that was badly in need of an update. We extended the upper floor to create an open two-story space above the new kitchen and opened up the two adjacent rooms with 2 large new windows and a 12' sliding patio door. A dark kitchen tucked into the interior of the house will be transformed into...

Bird House Studio Update 2

We took an office field trip over lunch to check on the progress on the bird house studio. Its being painted now and looks really great even in the dreary cloudy weather. Its going to be a lovely and light-filled space. Even better, Gerry(our wonderful client) has been doing some baking and shared a few cookies and some delicious apple pie. She said the painters especially liked this batch of cookies. The birdhouse studio proves once again that well-fed contractors...

Belvedere Update 1

We took an office trip out to check on the progress at the Beveldere site. You can tell even now that the views are going to be spectacular from both the upper and lower patio. There is more excavation to come yet but the form of the house is slowly rising from the ground. To the right is the entrance to the lower garage, the curving wall beyond is the lower patio, past that and up the stepped wall...

Bird House Studio Update

The sliding doors and track and the storage unit above are installed. We're really happy with the flat bar sliding door track, its fairly inexpensive and has a nice simple look. We're still going to paint the zinc bolts but other then that its up and done. The round bar track above is for the library ladder for access to the storage and mechanical unit above. Paint and tile are the next step, more pictures to come soon. ...

Contest Drawing

Its the END! (of the RDM Contest) We'd like to thank all of you who took the time to enter our little drawing! We were so excited to get all the entries that we decided to brave the storm-pocalypse, dig our way into the office and do the drawing on time. And the winner is     We had fun with this and got more entries then we ever thought. We might even try this again...
