Belvedere Update 8

Let's start with a view from the new driveway location. The roof sheathing is just about complete so you really can get a feel for the shape of the house now. We used a 4:12 slope on almost every roof to keep the height from going over the Lake Quivira height restrictions but also to give the house a more horizontal feel even with the towers at the drive and lake side. This also means that during site visits...

New Addition

Congratulations are in order to fellow RDM'er Matt Lero & his wife Sara on the birth of their first child on Friday night. Baby Isaac weighted in at 8 lbs. 2 oz. & went home yesterday with everyone healthy & doing well. ...

About Your House with Bob Yapp – Video

In going through photos and files during the building of the new website we came across a VHS tape of an episode of About Your House With Bob Yapp that featured the Ellis residence that RDM completed back in the late 90's. Filmed over the course of 2 days the video, which featured historically sensitive renovations, shows some great shots of the house and a short interview with Rick. We had the video transferred to a dvd not long ago...

Belvedere Update 7

Another site visit to take a look at some roof framing and to see what's been going on since we were there last. Roof framing and sheathing is cruising right along as you can see from the pictures. Below is the view you'll see coming in the new drive. The temporary gravel drive has been built up quite a bit above where the new drive will be. The garage doors below are actually framed up higher as they will have...

Mike Doesn’t Have Malaria!

Mike has been in Haiti doing some good work for the last week or so. We've missed him here at the office and thought we'd show him how happy we were to have him back. Below is the awesome (at least we think so) sign that greeted him this morning when he got here. He's got some great stories and pictures and he's going to put together a post here in the next week or so, so stay tuned! ...

Custom Stair Install 2

The glass has arrived and the stair is bolted in place. Ian and his guys had to make some on-site modifications to make it fit but its in for good now. Below, Ian, Rick and Greg make the first ascent. There is a bit of fill and sanding left to do and the stringers will be painted to match the wall color and the treads and railing will be stained a mid to dark brown. We'll stop by and take...

Belvedere Update 6

Look at that view! Mike and Rick went out to the Belvedere site late last week to check up on progress. As you can see below the second floor decking is under way. Below left is standing near the future screened-in-porch, looking out over the firepit. Below right is standing on the balcony overlooking the great room, views of the lake abound. Below is the master bathroom framing. Standing in the great room, looking out over the upper...

RDM takes home another award!

Last week while Rick was away KC Magazine held their annual Design Excellence Awards. Mike and Matthew showed up at the new J.E. Dunn headquarters downtown to represent RDM Architecture and hopefully pick up an award. We submitted the Sun Room Addition (http://www.rdmarchitecture.com/blog-whats-new/dogs-and-architecture.html) and took home an award for Architecture_Exterior! Former RDM employee Jerad Foster and his crew, who built the entertainment unit pictured above for the project, picked up an award for that as well making the project...

Custom Stair Install

We've been working on this project for some time, and the stair is just one part of a whole series of projects in the same residence but for us this is certainly the most exciting at the moment. Designed in the late 70's by Alan Feingold Architects the living room, and really the entire house is full of 45 degree angles which come together in a large 2 story. At each end of the room glass doors and large windows...
