Contest Drawing

Its the END! (of the RDM Contest) We'd like to thank all of you who took the time to enter our little drawing! We were so excited to get all the entries that we decided to brave the storm-pocalypse, dig our way into the office and do the drawing on time. And the winner is     We had fun with this and got more entries then we ever thought. We might even try this again...

Belvedere in the Snow

Just because the site is snow covered and serene doesn't mean the work stops. RDM, the owners, and the rest of the project team trudged out into the snow to make some key decisions. We looked at the stone and mortar colors as well as the roofing style and color. Coming in out of the snow we headed to Continental Cast Stone for a short tour and to look at some cast stone colors. We may not be the post office but we won't...

Dogs and Architecture

Often its not just the human clients that influence a design. In the case of the recently completed Sun Room Addition, Winnie the Bull Terrier (pictured above) helped us to choose patio material (durable), plantings (not many and well protected) and fencing (sturdy and metal). We're dog friendly people here at RDM and we felt that we should thank Winnie for her help on the project.   Coincidently just as the project was wrapping up we stumbled upon Kath Wilson, a glass...

Bird House Studio

An Introduction to the Birdhouse Studio A first look at the Birdhouse Studio and it is already ready for the floor slab pour. The project includes a new studio art space, laundry and bath room in addition to a new, larger and more easily accessible garage. We've used the addition to create a small "courtyard" space and a sense of arrival at the secondary entrance to the the house.     The location of the house within a...

Handrail Fitting

Last-Minute Fitting We just posted some images of this project, but we were out there for the test fitting and adjustment of the guard rail and hand rail and we're excited about how great it looks. It will be powder-coated to match the brackets so any adjustments, drilling or welding have to be done now. It is like a dress fitting for a building the week before the big event. That's Brian of Hurst Construction up there adjusting the upper end of the...

Sun Room Addition

Sun Room and Backyard Transformation (sneak preview) You may have seen this project in process if you've been keeping up with the RDM Facebook page. As it nears completion we're getting excited about the way it is taking shape. A relatively simple project but its all in the details. RDM has teamed up with Hurst Construction again and they are doing some beautiful work with the cypress cladding and ipe sunscreen and deck. The project should be wrapping up in the next...

Belvedere Concrete

[gallery link="file" size="medium" ids="837,836,838"] The form work for the remainder of the concrete at Belvedere is ready and concrete should be poured this week. The forms themselves are beautiful in an industrial sort of way and a sharp contrast to the natural landscape beyond and the crisp finished concrete around it. We'll post some pictures as soon as the forms come off. Excavation and concrete work are going to be finished soon and then the house starts to really become three dimensional....

Office Cleanup

10 November 2010 Another Lovely Fall Day & Yardwork The fall has been wonderful but winter is on its way. Time for cleaning out of gutters and raking of leaves and other seasonal chores. On the plus side this includes climbing around on the roof, leaf blowers, chainsaws and other fun things. We got a lot done while Cooper supervised and barked at random things. It was great to get away from the computer screen for...
